Parental Factors Associated to Functional Abdominal Pain Disorders in Pediatric Age Group: a Case-Control StudyAbstractBackground:FAPD is one of the most common reasons for child and adolescents's medical visits. Although exact mechanisms are still incompletely understood, psychosocial and parental factors contribute the pathophysiology of FAPDs.Methods:This is a case-control study, performed in pediatrics clinics in Isfahan University of Medical Sciences. All 4-16 years old children with abdominal pain complain, were classified as FAPD by using Rome IV criteria. NEO Five-Factor Inventory was completed by all both parents.Result:The mean and standard deviation age of children in both groups was 2.45±8.10 and 3.04±7.68, and there was no significant difference between groups. However, neuroticism trait (P=0.002) was significantly higher in case group. extraversion and consciousness traits were more frequent in control group. Father's authoritarian behaviors and mothers who had more control over their nutrition and weight, was more common in case group. Conclusion:Parent’s personality affect through different ways on FAPD in children. Diluting the adverse personality of parents and changing their relationship with offspring, is crucial to prevent or treat FAPD.
